QLD Home Battery Rebate

Eligibility for the 2025 Solar Battery Rebate

To be eligible for the 2025 solar battery rebate, the following conditions apply:

  • Your battery must be Clean Energy Council (CEC) approved.
  • The installer must be accredited for battery installation.
  • Battery must have a usable capacity between 5kWh and 50kWh     (systems over 50kWh can still receive the rebate up to 50kWh).
  • System must be VPP-capable (Virtual Power Plant-ready) — but      joining a VPP is optional.
  • The battery must be connected to a solar power system,      either new or existing.
  • One rebate per property, but owners of multiple homes     can claim on each property with solar installed.
  • Off-grid systems may      also be eligible despite the VPP-ready requirement.
  • Not income tested —      available to all property owners.

If you already have a battery, you can still claim the rebate by adding more capacity that meets the requirements.

Key Benefits of the 2025 Battery Incentive

  • Up to $370/kWh rebate:      Receive approx. $370 per usable kilowatt-hour of installed battery      capacity (before admin fees).
  • Pre-install and qualify:      Batteries installed before 1 July are still eligible — they just need to      be turned on afterward.
  • Unlimited spots available: No      cap on how many households can apply.
  • Combine with state rebates:      Eligible systems can receive both state and federal rebates.
  • Add-on eligibility:      Already own a battery? You can expand your capacity and still claim the      new rebate.
  • Multiple properties covered: You      can claim the rebate on more than one qualifying home.
  • VPP-ready systems required: The      battery must support Virtual Power Plant functionality (joining a      VPP is optional).
  • Solar system connection required:      Batteries must be installed alongside or connected to a solar panel      system.

Top Reasons to Install a Solar Battery Now

  • Lower your electricity bills and improve energy independence.
  • Store surplus solar power for nighttime or blackout use.
  • Lock in your eligibility before the rebate officially launches.
  • Avoid supply shortages and installation delays later in the year.
  • Beat future price hikes and reduce reliance on the grid.

Battery Rebate FAQ's

1. Can I install my battery now and still claim the rebate?
Yes, as long as your battery is switched on after 1 July 2025 (pending final policy confirmation).

2. What batteries qualify?
Systems between 5–50kWh, must be VPP-capable and connected to a solar system.

3. How much is the rebate worth?
Around $370 per kWh, up to $18,500, depending on system size.

4. Can I claim both federal and state rebates?
Absolutely — you can combine incentives for maximum savings.

5. I already have a battery — can I still benefit?
Yes, adding more capacity makes you eligible.

6. Can I install on more than one property?
Yes, you can claim on each eligible home you own.

7. Will the rebate reduce over time?
Like the solar panel rebate, this won’t last forever — early adopters benefit most.

8. Who is funding this rebate?
The Australian Federal Government will fund the scheme via a certificate-based model.

9. Do I have to join a Virtual Power Plant?
No — your battery just needs to be capable of joining one.

10. Is solar required?
Yes — standalone batteries do not qualify. Your battery must be tied to a solar system.
